Background  

The Alan Li Social Justice Capacity Building Award was established in 2014 by the Committee for Accessible AIDS Treatment (CAAT) as part of its 15th anniversary celebrations. The award honors Dr. Alan Li — a co-founder, mentor, and visionary leader — for his decades of selfless contributions to equity, empowerment, and community care.  

Dr. Li’s legacy includes:  

• Unwavering dedication to social justice and health equity  

• Lifelong commitment to PHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) empowerment and capacity building  

• Grassroots leadership in mobilizing racialized communities  

• Compassionate service as a caregiver, mentor, colleague, and friend  

The 2025 award will be presented at the upcoming CAAT Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for September 2025.  

Nomination Criteria  

Nominees should be community members who have demonstrated outstanding contributions in one or more of the following areas:  

• Commitment to peer capacity building  

• Demonstrated courage, resilience, and perseverance  

• Acts of compassion and generosity, especially toward marginalized communities  

• Excellence as a role model and mentor  

• Dedication to social justice and health equity  

Eligibility  

Nominees must:  

• Identify as an Immigrant, Refugee, or Non-status PHA (IRN-PHA)  

• Participation in CAAT initiatives or other allied community efforts is preferred but not required 

Who Can Nominate?  

Nominations are open to community members, service providers, peers, and allies working in HIV/AIDS, gender justice, health equity, migration, or related sectors. 

Self-nominations are also welcome and encouraged, especially from individuals with lived experience who wish to share their journey and contributions. 

 All submissions must include the name and contact details of the nominator.  

We encourage award nominees to attend the AGM in person. In special circumstances, remote participation (via Zoom/teleconference) may be arranged.
