New group graduated from ETSN Level 2 Training
On October 1-2, 2011, 16 participants and 11 trainers/peer facilitators spent an intensive training weekend at Kempenfelt to complete the first ever ETSN level 2 peer counselor training. The participants came from graduates from 2 previous level 1 training series that occurred in the last year. Since its inception in 2002, ETSN has trained over 100 participants (PHAs and affected community members and caregivers from culturally diverse communities) to become peer treatment counselors. In response to community needs, in 2010, ETSN became a program of CAAT and revised its intensive 8 day training program into different levels, level 1: “Helping Ourselves” focuses on treatment literacy and communication skills with health care providers; Level 2: “Helping Each Other” focuses on peer counselling support skills and Level 3: Peer Facilitators Training, focuses on mentored practice of ETSN graduates to facilitate the level 1 and 2 programs.
